In recent decades, St. Larsparken in Lund has been transformed from a closed care environment to a green educational and residential environment. The beautiful park, once created for patients at Lund Hospital, is now used by students and staff in the area's schools and by local residents.

Together with Hemsö, we are developing the park with content that better meets today's needs, including a sports facility with a gym, sports hall and paddle courts. The park and its proximity to Höjeådalen already offer good opportunities for exercise and recreation. The new sports facility is a complement that creates space for physical activity even indoors. During the day, the sports hall will be filled with schoolchildren, while the gym and padel courts will also act as a draw for local residents. The hall will thus contribute to activity in the park for a larger part of the day and year.

The hospital area was established in the 1870s and grew with new buildings almost every decade. Each of them is an imprint of its time, but in terms of design they are bound together by the characteristic red brick. The sports facility is also linked to the brick tradition, but with its own expression that forms the next layer in the park's history. An addition to the rich and historically important park environment designed to last a long time, just like the buildings that have been there before.

The new sports facility is strategically located along Sankt Lars väg and serves as an entrance building into the park from the north. The volume has been broken up into three parts that together form a dynamic whole:

  • The fronts faces Sankt Lars väg and meets the visitor. This part, which contains the gym and changing rooms, is linked to the other buildings in the park by its red brick facade.
  • Main entrance is clearly visible from large parts of the park. The glazed facade creates a welcoming entrance and becomes a clear destination even in the evening.
  • Halls which houses the sports hall, changing rooms, padel courts and garage, has a double facade where an outer, perforated layer creates a fine play of shadows and gives depth to the facade. The green, matte color connects to the scarred copper details that, together with the red brick, are found around the area.

The building meets the criteria for Miljöbyggnad Silver.
