Children and architecture
The Convention on the Rights of the Child is law in Sweden and states that the best interests of the child must be taken into account in all decisions affecting children. Children are to be seen as active and competent individuals who have the right to be heard in all matters that concern them, not least in relation to their own living environment. In parallel with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, PBL and Sweden's ”Policy for a Designed Living Environment” apply. Both aim to promote sustainable social development with equal, good living conditions where everyone is given the opportunity to influence the development of the shared environment.
For children's best interests to have a real impact, a children's rights perspective must be included throughout the entire spatial planning process. At FOJAB, we have a wide range of tools and methods to address the child rights perspective and the needs of children in different types of environments.
