Children and community architecture
At FOJAB, we are committed to designing houses and places where children and young people thrive and feel safe. With a conscious design, feelings of well-being and security can be promoted while various forms of discrimination and vulnerability are counteracted.
We believe that the child perspective should be taken into account in the design of all community facilities where children and young people will be present, such as health and special care facilities, court buildings, community centers and other public buildings. Visiting a sibling in hospital or being a patient oneself, attending a meeting at the social services or in a court building, are examples of vulnerable situations where the physical environment comes into play and can have a positive impact on the child's overall experience.
To describe how the CRC can be translated into physical form and practical solutions, we at FOJAB produce special documents, so-called guidance on child-friendly environments. With these guides, we help our clients, such as government agencies, to identify the spatial qualities that are of particular importance for the child's experience in the environment in question.
