HSB-huset, Nyköping
The HSB building is given an expressive architecture that asserts itself and is allowed to take its place in the urban space. Through a solid brick facade in heavily color-changing bricks, the building is given a boldness that allows it to stand out against the surrounding plaster facades in a more subdued palette. The architecture is based on older industrial architecture in brick, such as there are examples of in Nyköping as well as in a number of other Swedish cities.
Kv. Förrådet has a history as an industrial area and industrial architecture is also represented in the immediate area, albeit in a more recent form. What binds together the architecture of industrial halls from all eras is the repetitive frame that is often visible in the facade. Load-bearing elements and brick details form niches within which large windows are repeated around the buildings, which usually have a substantial spread and rectangular footprint. A horizontality and heaviness gives an incredible presence in urban spaces where these heavy brick pieces often dominate their surroundings even if they are lower than surrounding buildings.
The new office building has a single floor that brings together all of HSB Sörmland's functions in one place - administration, sales and customer reception as well as mechanical workshop and carpentry. The office consists of different types of work environments suitable for different types of work tasks. The recurring theme for the interior design is "At home with HSB" and the environment in the office should reflect the feeling in HSB's own homes.
Rooms are cozy and varied, workspaces encourage movement and collaboration. The dining room and lounge are open and inviting, reflecting the living room feel of the home. The office layout leads to many spontaneous meetings between colleagues and in the center there is a courtyard for community and contemplation. The courtyard provides nice views of greenery.
